Apostle Islands Honeymoon
The secluded natural beauty of these
forested freshwater islands is what interests most couples who honeymoon
in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. But the islands offer a lot
more to explore, including historic lighthouses and shipwrecks. And if
exploring a pristine island wilderness sounds appealing but camping on
your honeymoon doesn't, then make one of Madeline Island's cozy rental
cottages or bed & breakfasts your nightly retreat.

The Apostle Islands are a
collection of islands in Lake Superior just off Wisconsin's north shore.
The islands' main attraction is their natural beauty: a mix of
old-growth forests, colorful beaches, and sandstone cliffs,
sea caves, and rock formations. It's all protected by the National Park Service as part
of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The park service also
preserves numerous sites of historic interest on the islands, including
"the nation's finest collection of historic lighthouses," and provides
interpretive programs during the summer.
Madeline Island is the largest of the
Apostle Islands, and the only one on which commercial development is
allowed. Accessible by car ferry, hovercraft, or ice road
(depending on the season), the island's 200-some residents cater to
tourists with about a dozen places to dine and numerous rental cottages,
inns, and bed & breakfasts (see link below for a full listing). Several charter companies offer tours of
the islands; you can even go dogsledding or explore the islands' many
shipwrecks.
