This tiny island is leased, in its
entirety, by Adrian and Penny Heyworth from the States of Guernsey. At
just a mile and a half long by a mile wide, Herm boasts of having "no
cars, no crowds and definitely no stress." What it does have are several
restaurants, a tiny church, "self-catering" cottages for rent, a
campground, and a 40-room hotel, the WhiteHouse. Rolling fields, woods,
and sandy beaches are the island's main attractions.

Herm is accessible by sea via a 20-minute ferry trip
from Guernsey. We found self-catering cottage rates going for
£550 per week and
£138 for three nights of camping;
hotel rates were not published on the island's website. The campground
offers an option to rent an equipped tent.

The WhiteHouse Hotel has a pool, croquet lawn, and
tennis court. The main thing to do on Herm appears to be exploring the
island's natural beauty: "Watch the wildlife on the foreshore, swim in
crystal clear seas, and discover a shady spot under granite rocks on a
beach," says the island website. Sandy beaches wrap around half the
island.
Guernsy and Sark islands are also just a
20-minute ferry ride away; if you like the idea of Herm's seclusion and
laid-back style, make it your "home base" for day-trips to the other
Channel Islands. You can find out more about them at our
Channel Islands Honeymoon
page.
