Here’s another strategy for couples looking for a cheap honeymoon: check out a hospitality club or network. These organizations connect travelers with locals who are willing to open their homes for free or at a very low cost. Besides saving the expense of a hotel or other accommodations, travelers get to rub shoulders with locals in the place they’re visiting. Says one of the largest hospitality networks, Couchsurfing.org: “[It's] not just about finding free accommodations around the world; it’s about making connections worldwide. We make the world a better place by opening our homes, our hearts, and our lives.”
The downside, of course, is that you don’t have the same amount of privacy and flexibility that you would at a hotel, which might be an issue on a honeymoon . . . or not. One couple says that their hospitality network was an integral part of their year-long honeymoon; you can read their profile and comments at Couchsurfing. It may be that you can weave some hospitality stays into your honeymoon in order to mix things up a little, and save some cash at the same time.
